Lab#7: Robotic walker survey paper
نویسنده
چکیده
Next generation Robotic Walker designers are investigating navigation functions to help the elderly and disabled people to remain healthier and stay socially active. However, unattended safety concern will highly likely led to a drop in users’ acceptance and organizational uptake of this technique. If safety remains to be a concern of both carers and users, this technique will possibly be at a high risk of being abandoned by hospitals and nursing home to avoid liabilities to collision and falls. We suggest remedying this problem by incorporate obstacle avoidance and stair detection in the design of navigation functionality of robotic walkers.

This paper describes integration and use of the OpenRAVE, ikfast module as an inverse kinematics solver for the Correll Lab Arm Manipulator (CLAM arm). It also explains the general working of the Robot Operating System (ROS) in the context of motion planning and control of robotic arms.
متن کاملSurgical suturing training with virtual reality simulation versus dry lab practice: an evaluation of performance improvement, content, and face validity.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) simulation versus dry lab suturing practice at improving suturing performance in robotic surgery. Nineteen novice participants with no prior robotic suturing experience were randomized to two groups, VR simulation and dry lab, which consisted of inanimate training on a da Vinci Si surgical system. Each group unde...
متن کاملDesign of an Active Walking-aid for Elderly People
This paper describes the preliminary design of a light, high stability, robotic system for elderly assistance. The mechanisms used for such assisting devices must exhibit complex mechanical functions that may change during the use. The design has also to be adapted to the morphology and/or pathology. Taking these constraints into account, the design of a robotic walker is presented which provid...
متن کاملDesign of a walking-aid and sit to stand transfer assisting device for elderly people
This paper describes the preliminary design of a light, high stability, robotic system for elderly assistance. The mechanisms used for such assisting devices must exhibit complex mechanical functions that may change during the use. The design was built up thinking about the constraints of a chosen pathology. Taking these constraints into account, the design of a robotic walker is presented whic...
متن کاملSMART NAVIGATION: Obstacle avoidance and stair detection
People with visual and mobility impairments show a significant deterioration in their activity levels and independence. This combination of visual and mobility impairments occurs most often among the elderly. To provide protection from chronic diseases that threaten the well-being of the elderly and assist them to stay happy and social, the concept of robotic walker was proposed and several pro...
